A classic design, Lizzie is a beautiful example of a Contessa 26 and sails like a dream. She has a GRP hull in excellent condition, and a beautiful mahogany finish down below.
She is ideal for single or short-handed sailing. As a young couple we’ve sailed her all over Northern Europe over the past 10 years. In 2018 we gave her a major overhaul at Fox’s Yard, Ipswich, including preventative osmosis treatment on the hull, before sailing her to Sweden and back, via the Baltic.

Accommodation

Lizzie is an example of the "accomodation Layout A" Contessa 26 design and has accomodation for 4 adults as follows:
- Main cabin contains 2 x quarter berths (1 x 6'6" and 1 x 6') with lee cloths
- Forecabin fitted with 2 x 6'6" berths in V-berth.

Between the main cabin and the forecabin is a heads compartment (flushing marine toilet, no holding tank), and hanging locker with additional storage.

The main cabin contains a full size chart table on the starboard side and a two burner gas stove with grill, to port. A cleverly designed slide-away bench provides a comfortable seat for both chart work and cooking. The sink is located beneath the companionway.

Interior construction is mahogany and to a beautiful standard.

Construction

GRP hull construction by Jeremy Rogers yard.
The hull is in good condition and has had preventative osmosis treatment and new gelcoat in 2018, by Fox's boatyard.
Below the waterline is Coppercoat antifouling (also from 2018) which has performed well.

Deck is GRP sandwhich construction. Cockpit is wood construction, with varnish work recently re-done in 2024.

Engine(s)

The current owners have sailed Lizzie with an outboard for the last 6 years.
The engine beds and fuel tank remain in situ and the prop shaft is available should a new owner wish to refit a Yanmar 1GM10 or other inboard engine.
We have parts available (by separate negotiation) for an electric propulsion system including an electric motor, batteries and controller unit.

Sails & Spars

Mainsails: 1 x old, 1 x Current mainsail in reasonable condition
Headsails: #1 Genoa, #3 Genoa (NEW 2018 in very good condition), Cruising shute (NEW 2018 in very good condition), Spinnaker.
Spars: Original roller boom (you won't find an easier or quicker way to stow a mainsail - we LOVE it!), roller furler for headsails, spinaker pole and whisker pole.
