The Golden Fleece is a static Thames Barge moored along the foreshore in the stunning location of Pin Mill on the picturesque River Orwell, Ipswich. The barge is located on a secure residential mooring and is accessed along the National Trust woodland path. It has its own private jetty and importantly a very large mooring of which there are no mooring charges as you will not only purchase the barge but also the double mooring, quite unique for this day and age. Council tax is payable at band A.
Accommodation comprises of a toilet/shower room, galley, double and single bedrooms, sitting room with a large window looking out over the estuary and a glass conservatory which incorporates views of the woods at the back and view of the mooring and estuary at the front. The barge is heated with either oil fired radiators or electric convector heaters. Both water and electric are connected and phone and internet can be supplied and connected if so required. The mooring is surrounded and joins the beautiful idyllic and tranquil National Trust reserve at Pin Mill with endless woodland and riverside heath walks with fantastic views of the estuary. Muntjac deer roam the surrounding woodland and around us are a dazzling array of wild birds and the occasional seals, Egrets, kingfishers, herons which can all be viewed from the barge. On a warm sunny day you can often see the mullet swimming around the mooring.
The Golden Fleece is as little as a minute’s walk to the famous and renowned Butt & Oyster pub and restaurant. There are local shops in the village of Chelmondiston which is a short walk up the lane where you will be able to buy local produce and essentials etc. Ipswich the main town is a short drive away (8 miles) and has extremely good links to London from the main line train station or the coach station located in the centre of town.
There is no vehicular access or parking at the barges only an unloading area but there is private parking available for vehicles in the resident’s car park a 2 minutes walk away but you have to apply for a permit from the local council for this. However, there is a pay car park (9-5) and further free parking available a short distance up the lane from the pub. The barge Golden Fleece having had the roof recovered and a well earned repaint will also have in the coming week’s further work to include repair and replacement of decking and further painting inside and out.
If you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil place to unwind or hide away from the ever increasing rat race and of city life then this could just be the place for you. With staycation holidays set to rocket in price and massively decline in availability why not consider Pin Mill and all the national trust and the sense of peace and tranquillity this offers especially with the potential of being a spectacular place to live either full time or part time. Alternatively, it would be possible to replace the Golden Fleece with your own vessel if you so wished as the mooring can easily accommodate this.
I’m looking for serious but sensible offers for the mooring. The barge is liveable. However, the main value is the mooring. You buy to own and there are no mooring fees to pay. Please do some research on moorings at Pin Mill and you will see that they rarely become available so this could be a commodity well worth investing in.
